Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT seeks a front line engineer for Waterfront Engineering. You will develop build strategies, methods, and fixtures for fabricating submarine components and assemblies, working with trades personnel in an active construction environment.

Responsibilities include creating tool designs, procedures for sequencing critical installations, and supporting deckplate construction across VIRGINIA Class, Overhaul/Repair, and COLUMBIA Class projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Marine, or equivalent engineering field.
• 5+ years of engineering experience.
• Broad understanding of structural/mechanical design, materials, weld design and bolted joints.

Responsibilities

• Develop build strategies, methods, and fixtures for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, systems, and modules.
• Identify and develop methods and tools required by the shipbuilder; prepare manufacturing procedures for sequence and alignment of critical installations.
• Focus work on VIRGINIA Class, Overhaul and Repair, and COLUMBIA Class construction.
• Interact daily with Groton, Quonset Point, and Newport manufacturing and planning representatives; travel locally between Groton and Quonset Point.
