Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat is seeking a Naval/Structural Engineer for the Steel Fab Focus Factory in Florence, SC to analyze and troubleshoot deck fabrication and outfitting on Virginia and Columbia class submarines.

The role requires strong knowledge of welding, NDT, and basic structural analysis, with duties to resolve construction issues, interface across departments, and occasionally extend hours to meet schedules.

Qualifications

BS degree in Naval Architecture or related engineering field
1–5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
Proficient knowledge of welding and NDT requirements/procedures
Basic structural analysis concepts
Experience with ship-checks in industrial environments
Working knowledge of MRP, Team Center and PCM is desirable
Experience with technical publications regarding welding and inspection requirements
Mentoring experience is a plus

Responsibilities

Analyze and troubleshoot deck fabrication and outfitting construction issues for Virginia and Columbia class submarines
Provide technical resolutions for welding and construction issues
Interface with Steel Fab trades, foremen, and engineering to develop timely solutions
Coordinate with EB cognizant engineering, materials, planning, welding, shock and analysis departments
Occasionally extend hours and weekend work to support construction schedule
