Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection seeks an experienced Border Patrol Agent (GL‑9/GS‑11) for full‑time, career employment with sign‑on and retention incentives.

Eligible candidates may qualify based on prior law enforcement experience and can be assigned to priority locations in the Southwest and beyond. Joining as a BPA offers base pay, locality pay, overtime, extensive benefits, and relocation considerations; up to $60,000 in additional incentives may be available for new appointees.

Qualifications

• GL‑9 requires one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade.
• GS‑11 requires one year of specialized experience with enforcement authority.
• Proficiency in Spanish is required during the Academy training.

Responsibilities

• Detect and question individuals suspected of immigration or customs violations and inspect documents and possessions.
• Prevent and apprehend aliens and smugglers using surveillance and night operations.
• Interpret tracks and evidence of illegal entry and contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks.
• Patrol borders and waterways using a range of government assets to accomplish the USBP mission.
