Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents (BPA) at the experienced level (GL‑9 / GS‑11) with sign‑on and retention incentives. This full‑time career offers base pay, locality pay, overtime, and incentives up to $60,000 for new appointees, with duty assignments across prioritized locations.

Training at the Border Patrol Academy is required after hire. Relocation may be required, and select locations have added incentives.

Qualifications

• GL-9: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, duties include physical searches, apprehending violators, firearms proficiency, and gathering evidence.
• GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, authority to enforce laws, lead investigations, and apprehend violators using advanced technology.

Responsibilities

• Detect suspected violators and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Maintain surveillance with various assets, including night-vision and infrared scopes.
• Interpret tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks during patrols.
• Patrol borders and waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, off-road vehicles, ATVs, motorcycles.
