Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection seeks an experienced Border Patrol Agent (GL‑9 / GS‑11) to join a nationwide team. The role offers base pay, locality pay, overtime, and incentive programs for new hires and retention, with duty assignments across major sectors.

Candidates with prior law enforcement experience may qualify for higher-graded BPA opportunities; after Academy, training and Spanish proficiency are provided, with relocation as needed.

Qualifications

GL-9: one year of specialized experience as described.
GS-11: one year of specialized experience with authority to enforce laws and investigate crimes.
No education substitutions for the GL-9 or GS-11 grade-level opportunities.

Responsibilities

Detecting and questioning people suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, and inspecting documents and possessions to determine citizenship or violations.
Preventing and apprehending aliens and smugglers at or near the borders by maintaining surveillance and using equipment.
Interpreting tracks, marks, and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
Performing farm, building, traffic and transportation checks, patrols.
Patrolling international boundaries and waterways using government assets to fulfill USBP mission.
