Job summary

Claremont McKenna College is seeking a Cook II - Baker to bake breads, muffins, cakes, cookies, pies, and desserts for meals and catering. The role emphasizes from-scratch baking, vegan/gluten-free options, and coordinating with the Executive Chef to introduce new items.

Requires California Food Handlers Card and fast-paced kitchen experience. The position runs 40 hours per week on a 9-month academic schedule, with benefits including health/dental/vision, retirement plans, and tuition remission.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Prior baking experience in a fast paced commercial kitchen required.
• A California Food Handlers Card required.
• Must bake from scratch and follow sanitation policies.

Responsibilities

• Bake items from scratch according to the bakery prep sheet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
• Prepare vegan and gluten-free options daily from scratch.
• Prepare baked items for catering events, including fine dining items.
• Set up the baking cart daily for the following day.
• Coordinate with the baking team, Sous, and Executive Chef on production lists.
• Maintain sanitation and calibrate ovens and scales for consistency.
• Bring new ideas to the baking department through customer interactions and research.
• Prepare pizza dough and bake pizzas.
• Execute ‘action station’ desserts during service.
• Follow Health Department directives and keep work area clean.
