Job summary

Hen House, part of Balls Food Stores, is seeking a reliable Deli Clerk to join our team. You will prepare and serve fresh deli products, deliver friendly guest service, and help drive department sales while building loyalty.

In this role you will slice and package meats and cheeses, stock deli items, maintain freshness and proper labeling, follow food safety guidelines, operate deli equipment and POS systems, and collaborate with teammates to ensure a positive guest experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
• Experience in grocery, retail, or food service environments (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide friendly, helpful, and respectful guest service at all times to ensure a positive shopping experience.
• Prepare, slice, and package deli meats and cheeses to order following food safety procedures.
• Prepare, cook, and stock deli items such as rotisserie chicken, salads, hot bar items, and grab-and-go meals.
• Maintain product freshness, labeling, and merchandising in deli displays.
• Engage with guests to answer questions and offer meal solutions.
• Develop knowledge of deli products, features, pricing, and location.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow hygiene guidelines.
• Operate deli equipment and POS systems accurately.
• Stock, rotate, and face products using FIFO to ensure freshness.
• Monitor inventory levels and report issues to leadership.
• Communicate with teammates and collaborate across departments.
• Adhere to policies, attendance, conduct, and dress code.
• Support loss prevention and assist other departments as needed.
• Remain productive during slower periods and prepare products.
• Other duties as assigned.
