Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Conductor in Batesville, AR. You will move freight safely, follow regulations, and work outdoors in all weather with training provided to grow in the railroad operations. This is a full-time, physically active role with opportunities for advancement across our network.

Expect to work a 40+ hour schedule in a 24/7 environment, with nights and weekends as needed. Strong communication and safety awareness are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and/or work experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review.
• Subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening.
• Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history.

Responsibilities

• Comply with federal, state, and railroad safety and operational regulations.
• Follow instructions from trainer, mentor, or supervisor.
• Communicate with team using signals or radio to coordinate movement.
• Operate track switches to determine train routes.
• Evaluate and complete assigned work safely and efficiently.
• Climb on/off equipment and walk the train/rail yard as needed for operations.
• Apply or release hand brakes on railcars multiple times daily.
• Read rule books and other materials for safety and operations.
• Inspect train and equipment for safety in movement and at rest.
• Connect air hoses and electrical components between locomotives/railcars.
• Utilize basic computer skills for reporting and documentation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
