Job summary

David Evans and Associates, Inc. is seeking a Freight Rail Client Team Leader / Senior Project Manager to drive market development, client relationships, and project execution across multiple western U.S. locations, with optional remote work.

The role requires a PE license and 10+ years in civil engineering design for freight rail, plus strong leadership, communication, and business development skills. Travel may be required, and the position offers a competitive salary and benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required.
• PE license required or in process.
• 10+ years of civil engineering design experience focused on freight rail land development.
• Familiarity with railroad design guidelines, specs, and criteria.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to travel periodically for client visits & project work.
• Experience delivering projects for major rail lines (UPRR, BNSF, CPKC, NS).
• Proven track record in winning and delivering transportation projects.
• Active participation in an employee-owned culture.
• Proficiency with MS Office and presentation tools.
• Strong writing and organizational skills; capable of leading large teams.

Responsibilities

• Identify and pursue new market opportunities aligned with the team strategy.
• Sell DEA services across business units; manage full lifecycle client relationships.
• Lead client contract negotiations and serve as high‑level client contact.
• Act as principal-in-charge or project manager; monitor performance and manage risks.
• Mentor junior engineers and project managers to support growth and quality.
• Lead pursuit staffing, partnerships, and forecast revenue and profitability.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
