Job summary

FedEx Freight in Michigan is seeking a dock worker to move freight between trailers and the dock area, using forklifts, pallet jacks and manual equipment.

You will verify freight documentation, assist customers, secure loads inside trailers, and perform hostling duties when required, while complying with laws and company procedures.

Starting rate of pay is $21.16 per hour, with a fast-paced environment and opportunities for growth within a safety‑minded team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Prior warehousing, freight handling or forklift experience preferred.
• If hostler/yard mule duties are required, experience preferred.
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator.
• Basic written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week.
• Ability to lift dock plates weighing ~100 pounds and to open trailer doors.
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, push/pull freight throughout shift.
• Ability to work independently and/or as a team member.
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers.
• Operate forklift, pallet jack and hand truck as needed.
• Verify freight documentation matches description (type, weight, hazmat).
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, or rope.
• Recoup and repair damaged freight when necessary.
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports.
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed.
• Perform hostling duties if required.
• Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures.
• Perform other duties as required.
