Job summary

FedEx Freight is seeking a capable dock associate in Utah to transport freight across the dock area to and from trailers, utilizing forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks. You will verify documentation, secure cargo, and assist customers with freight matters, ensuring compliance with policies and safety requirements.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent and basic math/communication skills; previous warehouse or hostler experience is preferred, with varying hours

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Prior warehousing, freight handling and/or forklift experience preferred
• Hostler/yard mule duties experience preferred
• Ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight of varying weights several times a week, lift dock plates up to ~100 pounds, and open trailer doors requiring ~75 pounds of lift force
• Ability to bend, twist, squat, push/pull freight throughout shift
• Work independently and/or as a team member
• Previous dock/warehouse experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Transport freight across dock area to/from trailers for loading to trailers
• Perform freight handling using forklift, pallet jack and hand truck
• Verify documentation matches freight description (type, weight, hazardous materials)
• Secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps, rope
• Recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
• Verify and complete required documentation and reports
• Assist customers with freight and freight documentation as needed
• Perform hostling duties if required
• Comply with laws, regulations, and company policies/procedures
• Perform other duties as required
