Job Description And Duties

We anticipate holding in-person interviews beginning the week of October 5, 2026.


Would you like to help our Fraud Prevention Team combat fraud and keep our members safe? Do you have an interest in research and cybersecurity? Are you ready to become a fraud expert? If yes, then we may have the role for you!


California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) seeks a highly motivated Fraud Prevention Analyst (Information Technology Specialist II) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fraud detection and prevention techniques, as well as experience with data analysis, auditing, and reporting. The Fraud Prevention Analyst will be responsible for investigating and resolving fraud cases, as well as developing and implementing new fraud prevention strategies.


Telework Information

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.


Sponsorship

This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship. CalPERS does not participate in E-Verify for employment authorization purposes.


Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025). PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.

  • Describe a time you recommended, gained approval, and implemented a fraud prevention tool or process. What obstacles did you overcome during implementation and how did you ensure success?

  • Describe your knowledge and experience with identifying different types of social engineering attacks and mitigation efforts completed.


Minimum Qualifications

All experience and education relating to the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) listed on the Classification Specification should be included in your application package to clearly demonstrate how you meet the MQs for this position. If you are using education to meet MQs, please include your transcripts with your application package.
