Job Summary
FP&A Manager, Transformation will lead the transformation and optimization of its Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function, not only across the VP Finance & Operations (VPFO) portfolio, but also impacting the entire UBC, including both campuses. This role will focus on enhancing university-wide level financial planning, forecasting, and analysis processes to improve financial performance, drive strategic insights, and integrate advanced technologies. In collaboration with senior university officials, this position will apply both leadership and analytical skills to , implement process improvements and align FP&A activities with UBC’s broader strategic goals. The FP&A Manager, Transformation will be responsible for driving FP&A transformation initiatives impacting all major university funds, including process enhancements and the development of a comprehensive transformation roadmap.
Organizational Status
Reporting to the Associate Director, Finance Strategy & Decision Support, the FP&A Manager, Transformation is a key member of the Transformation & Strategy team. The position works closely with all members in the Vice President Finance and Operations (VPFO) team and partners with other finance departments including Treasury, Faculty and Administration Finance Directors from both campuses, and key data and informational partners such as PAIR and Enrolment Services.
Work Performed
Lead and execute, at the corporate level, FP&A transformation initiatives, optimizing financial planning, forecasting, and analysis processes impacting the entire university and all major funds.
Mentor, lead, and educate both central and distributed finance teams across both campuses on FP&A transformation principles, methodologies, and best practices.
Develop, design, and implement, from a corporate level, strategies to improve FP&A operations, ensuring alignment with UBC’s and VPFO’s strategic goals and objectives.
Drive change management efforts by developing university-wide communication related to FP&A transformation, fostering the adoption of new processes, and guiding central and distributed teams across both campuses through system and process changes.
Leverage advanced analytics to provide actionable insights, improving decision-making, overall university performance, and long-term financial sustainability.
Develop long term models to evaluate potential financial savings, ROI, and the impact of proposed FP&A transformation initiatives.
Collaborate cross-functionally with various departments, from both VPFO as well as from Faculties and other VP Portfolios, to ensure FP&A processes and objectives support the entire university’s priorities.
Map the current state of FP&A processes, identify future state requirements, and conduct gap analyses to assess risks, technology impacts, and data requirements, in collaboration with UBC IT and the Integrated Service Centre.
Evaluate existing financial models, processes, and cost structures for all major university funds; recommend and implement strategies to optimize efficiency and improve financial performance.
Partner with internal audit and compliance teams to develop risk mitigation strategies, including governance, internal controls, and process documentation.
Manage project timelines and resources, ensuring the successful execution of FP&A transformation projects on time and within budget.
Plans, organizes and directs work to meet monthly, quarterly, yearly and ad hoc deadlines. Working with the Senior Director, FP&A, determines appropriate staffing levels and requirements;
Inspires the team with an inclusive mindset by continuously leading with the UBC values and ensuring all voices are heard as changes are made to people, process and systems.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
This role works within broad mandates aligned with the university’s and VPFO’s strategic goals. Due to the senior level of this position in the portfolio, the decisions or recommendations made will have a significant effect on the university’s financial standards and operations. Supervision Received
Works under the broad direction of the Associate Director, Finance Strategy & Decision Support. The FP&A Manager, Transformation has interdependencies with the members of the VPFO Senior Leadership, Extended Leadership teams, and Finance Directors from all Faculties and Administrative Units across both campuses. The incumbent in the role must be able to work independently and assume full responsibility for his/her decisions. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement of corporate FP&A transformation goals.
Supervision Given
While this role has no direct reports, the FP&A Manager Transformation will be involved in reviewing the work of other staff, and providing guidance to members of the campus community. Manages indirectly via influence, not authority.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Completion of the CPA accounting program (CA, CGA or CMA). Minimum of nine years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience as a senior consultant or manager at one of top-tier consulting firms in Canada, or other major players in the consulting industry, with specialization in finance transformation or in Enterprise Performance Management (EPM), is highly desirable.
Experience in higher education or large public sector environment, is a plus.
Expertise in EPM systems (e.g., Adaptive Planning, Oracle EPBSC, Anaplan, One Stream) and advanced proficiency with financial analysis, budgeting, and planning tools.
Strong understanding of FP&A processes, financial modeling, and financial reporting.
Proficiency with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Experience in managing change and implementing process automation within the FP&A function.
Experience in developing and managing complex long-term organizational financial forecast models. Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in highly complex and technical financial concepts and instruments.
Advance knowledge of computer software applications primarily Excel and Microsoft products platform including complex spreadsheet, data warehousing and business intelligence tools.
Strong understanding of Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) principles and ability to apply knowledge to UBC and its related entities
Strong communication skills, verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal, problem-solving, planning and organizational skills.
Ability to think strategically, grasp complex business and financial theories.
