Job summary

Spoks is seeking a senior backend engineer in Austin to own substantial parts of the backend, from design to production, collaborating with our Europe-based team. You will push for faster, more reliable systems as we scale from millions to billions of emails.

You will work with NestJS/TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and cloud platforms (GCP) while shaping architecture and technical direction alongside our founding team.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building and operating large-scale production systems on cloud platforms (GCP/AWS/Azure).
• Strong in TypeScript backend development, NestJS and PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge of queues, retries and reliable background processing.
• Ability to turn unclear problems into practical implementations and explain tradeoffs.

Responsibilities

• Build backend functionality for email, SMS, automation, CRM, analytics and AI-powered workflows.
• Improve APIs, data flows and database performance as volumes grow.
• Make sound architecture, security and cloud-cost decisions and implement changes.
• Keep services reliable with monitoring, safe releases and effective debugging.
