Level is seeking a Backend Engineer (senior or above) to design and build robust backend systems powering our learning platform in Austin, TX. You will work on APIs, microservices, and scalable infrastructure.

You’ll own performance, reliability, and security, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality features using Kotlin and cloud-based deployments. This role offers the chance to shape growth in education technology for millions of students.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building scalable online services.
• Experience deploying services to cloud environments with IaC.
• Strong Kotlin expertise.
• Experience with GitOps for deployments and live operations.
• Familiarity with Redis or DynamoDB.
• Ability to design distributed systems with performance in mind.
• Knowledge of security best practices for backend systems.
• Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience in growth software/saas, edtech, or high-scale applications.

Responsibilities

• Design and build robust backend systems, APIs, and microservices.
