Job summary

Astera Institute in Emeryville, California is seeking a Founding Technical Recruiter to design and operate AI-powered hiring workflows that scale across the organization.

You'll own the ATS integration (Ashby, Rippling, and other systems), build agent-based recruiting tooling, and partner with the COO and leadership to elevate candidate experience while maintaining hiring quality in a fast-growing, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications

• 3–6+ years of recruiting or people operations experience, with automations or AI tooling preferred.
• Experience with ATS systems and their APIs or automation surfaces.
• Ability to translate messy processes into reliable, well‑designed automation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with strong tone and detail.
• Comfort in highly ambiguous environments and shifting priorities.
• Strong project management skills across multiple hiring processes.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain AI agent and automation workflows for scheduling, candidate communication, and pipeline tracking.
• Own the toolchain end‑to‑end: configure and extend the ATS (Ashby/Rippling), connect to LLM‑based agents, and integrate calendars and email.
• Continuously evaluate new AI tools and techniques and pilot them against real hiring needs.
• Build guardrails and escalation paths so humans remain in the loop where judgment is required.
