Job summary

Futures Without Violence (FUTURES) is seeking a Development Manager to oversee a defined portfolio of foundation funders, expand the donor base, and drive prospecting and pipeline development. The role emphasizes grant writing, relationship management, and cross-team collaboration to advance program priorities.

The position reports to the Senior Advisor to the President and offers a hybrid schedule with at least two onsite days per week in San Francisco or Washington, D.C.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years of related work experience (or 10 years combined) in foundation relations, grant writing, or institutional development.
• Demonstrated success writing and managing complex grant proposals and reports.
• Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Experience with CRM systems and grant tracking tools; comfortable building shared systems.
• Collaborative work style and ability to build trust with program staff.
• Excellent written communication and ability to translate program complexity into funder narratives.
• Genuine interest in prospecting and building something beyond maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Draft grant proposals, reports, and letters of inquiry in collaboration with program and grants staff.
• Ensure portal submissions are accurate, complete, and aligned with funder requirements.
• Serve as day-to-day relationship manager for a defined set of foundation funders and track correspondence.
• Maintain records of foundation funder interactions, awards, and pipeline activity (Salesforce).
• Identify and prioritize new foundation funding opportunities aligned with FUTURES' priorities.
• Support development leadership in mapping the landscape and expanding the donor portfolio.
• Prepare for donor meetings, events, and external engagements with senior leadership.
• Coordinate follow-up activities from CEO-led donor conversations and board activities.
