Job summary

Forward Air Corp. in Des Plaines, IL is seeking a skilled Forklift Operator to safely load, unload, stage, and document freight in a fast-paced dock environment.

You will operate sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE, following established procedures and safety rules. This role requires a valid forklift certification, 3+ years of dock experience, good English communication, and the ability to lift up to 75 lbs with assistance.

Qualifications

• Valid forklift certification/licensure required.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• English communication proficiency.
• Ability to read numbers, barcodes, and freight markings accurately.
• Ability to operate MHE after training.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using forklifts and other MHE.
• Move, stage, and position freight between dock doors and trailers.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading following safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight with handheld devices.
• Identify damaged freight and report issues or safety concerns to supervision.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock environment and comply with PPE standards.
• Work schedules including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
• Train and mentor other Material Handlers.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert on dock operations and procedures.
