Job summary

Florida Forest Service, part of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, seeks a forester to manage the Kissimmee Bend State Forest. Responsibilities include timber sales, planting, prescribed burning, invasive species control, recreation, and wildlife management.

Occasional travel and emergency response duties apply. The role requires a SAF-accredited forestry degree, with consideration for candidates completing their degree soon; a valid driver license is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in forestry or related field from a SAF-accredited college or university.
• For foreign degrees, must be SAF-accredited or equivalently include two of these courses: Silviculture, Dendrology, Forest Mensuration, Forest Management.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, coordinate, and implement management plans on Kissimmee Bend State Forest, including timber sales, planting, prescribed burning, invasive species control, recreation, research tracking, road maintenance, and wildlife management.
• Assist landowners and communities with federal cost-share programs and tree planting procedures and certifications.
• Provide information on tree diseases to homeowners and train groups on tree planting, pruning, and maintenance.

Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in forestry or related field (SAS F accredited college/university)
