Job summary

FLORIDA FOREST SERVICE, part of the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, seeks a Forest Ranger in Tallahassee. The role involves forest fire prevention, detection, suppression, and education, with duties across state lands and public outreach.

Applicants must be at least 18, hold a high school diploma or equivalent, pass fingerprinting and background checks, and maintain good physical condition. A valid driver license and potential travel are required.

Qualifications

• Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent and at least 18 years old.
• Submit fingerprint card with a processing fee; fingerprint results may be shared with law enforcement.
• Maintain good moral character as determined by an agency investigation.
• Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical exam, NFPA 1582 may apply.
• Must be a non-user of tobacco for at least one year before applying.

Responsibilities

• Perform forest fire prevention, detection, suppression and presuppression duties.
• Operate and maintain fire suppression equipment and vehicles as trained.
• Assist with state lands management and forestry education programs.
• Respond to emergencies and incidents, including natural disasters, as required.
• Complete reports and comply with drug testing and background check requirements.
