Job summary

Maryland State Police, Forensic Sciences Division, Biology Section in Pikesville, MD, seeks a full-time contractual Records/Sample Technician to accession and organize arrestee and convicted offender samples for the statewide DNA database, ensuring proper chain of custody.

The role requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to participate in the expungement process mandated by recent legislation, over a two-year period with a total of 1984 hours.

Qualifications

  • Two years of experience with administrative functions or handling/inventorying evidence.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Substitution options available for AA degree or military service experience.

Responsibilities

  • Destroy samples that qualify for expungement under the DNA Database Law.
  • Process samples daily: data entry, tracking updates, filing DNA database cards.
  • Prepare batches of samples for testing by DNA Database Forensic Scientists.
  • Pull samples for expungement or hit confirmation as needed.
