Job summary

The Michigan State Police is seeking a Forensic Technician to support the CODIS section with analytical and laboratory duties, including receipt and data entry of samples and reagent preparation. This role emphasizes bias-free work and respectful service to the community.

Qualifications

• Forensic Technician 8: no specific type or amount of experience required.
• Forensic Technician 9: one year of experience equivalent to a Forensic Technician 8.
• Forensic Technician E10: two years of experience equivalent to a Forensic Technician, including one year equivalent to a Forensic Technician 9.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits substitution for education/experience requirements.

Responsibilities

• Receives and data enters arrestee and convicted offender samples.
• Prepares reagents and manages laboratory supplies.
• Performs basic equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Conducts computerized data entry.
• Follows bias-free policies and maintains dignity, fairness, and respect in all duties.

Job description

Participates in a variety of analytical and laboratory support activities for the Combined Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) Index System (CODIS) Section, including receipt and data entry of arrestee and convicted offender samples, preparation of reagents, laboratory supply management, basic equipment maintenance and calibration, and computerized data entry. This position is required to perform all duties in a bias-free manner.

Forensic Technician E10 Possession of a bachelor’s degree or higher with 16 semester (24 term) credits in job specific or related course work may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

This position requires passing a pre-employment screening, including passing a drug screen, criminal history background check, and a fingerprint check by the Michigan State Police.

Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of a current, valid driver's license to operate a designated state vehicle.

Positions in this class are test-designated and subject to pre-appointment, random-selection, and post accident drug and alcohol testing.
