Salary: $23.3576 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or its equivalent AND three (3) years of food service experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or a related medical facility, to include one (1) year of supervisory experience OR successful completion of a culinary school AND two (2) years of food service experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or a related medical facility, to include one (1) year of supervisory experience.

It is the policy of Allegheny County that in order to receive a final offer of employment, candidates must successfully pass a background check, which includes verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations as required for the position. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of the acceptance of the conditional offer of employment.

Position Summary:

Overview:

Duties:

  1. Supervises staff engaged in the preparation, cooking, and baking of food for residents and staff at the Regional Center.
  2. Schedules and assigns staff to specific tasks and assures that tasks are completed in accordance with established food service procedures to meet established production schedules.
  3. Ensures that meals are prepared in accordance with standardized recipes and held at a safe temperature; inspects special diet trays to assure that the correct diet is served to the resident.
  4. Ensures that work schedules are adhered to and that overtime is obtained only when staffing falls below established minimums.
  5. Orients new staff to operations and conducts performance evaluations; counsels and disciplines employees as necessary in accordance with Kane system policies and procedures.
  6. Assists the Food Service Director in implementing and interpreting department policies and procedures for staff, residents, visitors, and family members.
  7. Ensures all safety regulations and precautions are followed by all staff and investigates and reports all accidents/incidents as required by established policies and procedures.
  8. Reviews and maintains HACCP logs and makes procedural corrections to assure compliance.
  9. Ensures that food service personnel follow established sanitation policies and procedures.
  10. Ensures that containers of chemicals, cleaning agents, etc., are properly labeled and stored and that the required MSDSs are properly affixed and filed.
  11. Reviews and investigates complaints and grievances and provides recommendations for action to the Food Service Director.
  12. Performs other related duties as required or requested.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  1. Dietary practices and procedures
  2. Principles and practices of supervision
  3. Sanitary and waste disposal regulations applicable to food service operations
  4. HACCP standards relating to food safety procedures and temperatures required to keep food safe

Skill in:

Ability to:

  1. Communicate clear and concise instructions, both orally and in writing
  2. Plan, organize, and supervise food preparation activities within established time frames
  3. Plan, schedule, and assign staff to accomplish the available work without resorting to extensive use of overtime
  4. Work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within a long-term care facility

Residency: Allegheny County within 1 year.
