Job summary

H-E-B in Texas is seeking a Food Service Representative to maintain a well-stocked, clean department while delivering superior customer service. You will prepare, package, and merchandise fresh products daily and uphold food safety standards.

You will handle customer inquiries, take orders, assist with selections, and support Bakery, Deli, Prepared Foods, and other departments as needed. The role requires strong communication, organization, and ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities

• Provides superior customer service.
• Takes orders from customers by telephone or in person.
• Answers customer questions regarding products; assists them with selections.
• Prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product effectively.
• Slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality.
• Assists in technical areas as needed (e.g., basic set-up and clean-up processes).
• Uses suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales.
• Cleans and sanitizes display cases.
• Operates / maintains equipment properly.
• Complies with food safety and sanitation standards and department/store procedures.
• Records production and shrink to aid in production planning (Bakery).
• Assists in technical areas as needed (e.g., baking, frying, and decorating).
• Culls bakery products for poor quality, expiration dates.
• Takes care of service counter customers (Deli).
• Uses ordering system applications and Fresh Production Planner.
• Performs inventory management processes (MSI, PAW).
• If applicable, ensures catering orders are prepared and ready for customer pickup.
• Performs sanitation and maintenance tasks for Deli slicers.
• Serves / packages products at customer’s request (Prepared Foods).
• Educates customers on preparation / reheating instructions of prepared foods.
• Prepackages condiments for prepared food items.
• Cuts, slices, dices, chops food for chef.
