Job summary

Atlantic County Vocational School District is seeking a Food Service Cook to provide healthy meals for students under supervision of the Food Service Director or Manager.

The role involves assisting in meal prep, supervising cafeteria operations, and helping students with food purchases and waste disposal. Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and be able to lift up to 50 pounds; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Title: Food Service Cook

Position Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the Food Service Director or Food Service Manager, to provide healthy meals for students

Essential Functions:

• Assists in the preparation of Food for the students and the Cafe
• Must understand and follow recipes.
• Assists in supervising the cafeteria
• Assists students with orderly food purchases, distribution of food, disposal of food waste

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Effective organizational and problem solving skills.
• Bilingual oral skills (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Ability to maintain composure and perform responsibilities under pressure.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality about students in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and district guidelines.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

• Works in standard school environment.

Qualifications Profile

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

Certification/License:

• Motor Vehicle Operator's (DMV) License or ability to provide own transportation.

Experience:

• Successful prior experience working as a lunch or cafeteria aide, preferably in a school district or with children.
• High School Diploma or equivalent training
• Experience as directed by the Board
• Physical ability and emotional stability to perform assigned tasks
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status

Salary & Benefits: Salaries start at $19.13 - $21.21 p/h in accordance with the salary guide. Sick, Personal time and Bereavement is included.
