Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Technician to maintain, troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical equipment in a food processing environment.

This role requires proficiency in electrical controls, fluid power, mechanical systems, welding, fabrication and manufacturing processes across multiple skill clusters. You will read blueprints, install and test equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and provide technical support for all phases of operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 1+ years of related experience or 4 years of direct industrial maintenance experience.
• Vocational diploma or associate degree from a technical program (preferred).
• Ability to read and translate work orders, and read blueprints and wiring diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Review work orders to determine tools, time, parts, and manpower.
• Read blueprints and electrical schematics to troubleshoot.
• Disassemble, identify worn parts, and replace components.
• Test major subsystems to localize problems with diagnostic tools.
• Fabricate replacement parts using welding, cutting or sheet metal work.
• Install and maintain electrical, piping and mechanical systems per specs.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on pumps, packaging, and related equipment.
