Job summary

Actalent seeks an Embedded Software Engineer to develop flight software for spacecraft, interfacing directly with hardware and running on HIL and simulation platforms. Level 3 or Level 4 depending on experience, with TS clearance preferred.

The role is full-time, onsite in Sterling, VA, with a focus on BSPs, device drivers, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to meet stringent space-system requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Electrical, Computer, Software Engineering, or related STEM field with 5 years (Level 3) or 8 years (Level 4).
• Master’s degree with 3 years (Level 3) or 6 years (Level 4).
• PhD with 1 year (Level 3) or 4 years (Level 4).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop embedded software modules interfacing with hardware protocols (UART, MIL-STD-1553, SPACEWIRE, SPI).
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, and software engineers to define flight software requirements and verification plans.
• Develop, configure, and maintain BSPs and device drivers for embedded platforms.
• Perform trade studies using simulations and development boards to optimize performance.
• Integrate software with simulation platforms and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
• Analyze resources to improve efficiency, stability, and speed of embedded/flight software.
• Prepare design analyses, test results, and presentations for stakeholders.
• Diagnose and resolve issues during installation, integration, testing and operation.
• Collaborate across teams to support mission objectives.
