Substitute teachers follow lesson plans, maintain orderly classrooms, and supervise students while keeping them engaged. The role offers part-time, as-needed work with straightforward access to training and references.

Qualifications

• Criminal record check: FBI and BCI background checks dated within 365 days of hire.
• Bachelor's Degree in any field required.
• Three professional references required.
• Teaching license or Ohio Substitute Teacher License required or options to obtain.
• Complete SubSkills Online training and mandatory professional development via PublicSchoolWorks.
• Effective communication, both written and oral.
• Punctuality and reliable attendance.
• Adherence to Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.

Responsibilities

• Follow the lesson plans provided by the absent teacher to ensure continuity.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom conducive to learning.
• Ensure student supervision and safety at all times.
• Keep students engaged and safe, supporting the day’s learning goals.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback to the regular teacher.
• Maintain existing classroom management and discipline procedures.
• Understand school policies and procedures and uphold them.
• Provide written feedback on the day’s activities and student behavior.
• Keep accurate attendance records.
