Job summary

Alameda County Law Library in Oakland is seeking a Part-Time/On-Call Reference Librarian to support in-person reference services and information delivery. The pool may transition to a full-time/benefited role; hours are capped at 29 per week.

Responsibilities include assisting patrons, guiding use of legal databases, catalog support, and basic circulation tasks, with potential to contribute to resource guides and outreach.

Qualifications

• MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program.
• Experience in a law library or legal setting preferred.
• Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Chinese is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Provide reference assistance in person, by phone, and via email.
• Assist patrons with legal databases, websites, and print materials.
• Make referrals to legal aid, court self-help, and lawyer referral services.
• Explain and enforce library policies and rules of conduct.
• Perform circulation tasks including checking materials in/out and issuing library cards.
