Job summary

MLK Community Healthcare is seeking a Medical Assistant (Float) to support multiple ambulatory locations. You will assist providers with patient procedures, manage patient histories, and ensure smooth clinic flow across sites.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years in a medical setting, BLS certification, and MA credentials. You may cover front desk duties as needed and must be flexible with site start times and daily operations.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent required; candidates with five years of experience may substitute diploma.
• Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate required.
• 1–2 years of experience in a medical practice environment preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association.
• Certification by a Medical Board of California approved certifying organization preferred.

Responsibilities

• Floats to designated site(s) based on staffing needs; flexible with short notice for site.
• Assist providers in office procedures and patient care per office protocols.
• Monitor patient flow and resolve interruptions; inform Practice Manager as needed.
• Perform MA functions such as injections, immunizations, pulmonary function testing, Snellen, hearing and ECGs.
• Document thorough patient histories and medication reconciliation; transcribe family history as required.
• Review orders for completeness; cancel or rectify inaccuracies and escalate as needed.
• Review referrals and lab requisitions for accuracy and correct lab.
• Obtain waivers and consents; document procedures and instructions given to patient.
• Prepare examination rooms after visits; keep areas stocked and disinfected daily.
• Provide patient with Patient Summary Plan; ensure understanding of instructions from providers.
• Demonstrate tact, courtesy, and professionalism with patients and staff.
• Perform duties with speed and adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, DHS, CLIA, EPA guidelines; cover front desk as needed.
• Additional duties as assigned by Practice Manager.
