Job summary

West Side Federation for Senior and Supportive Housing seeks a Kitchen Assistant to support meal distribution, service and clean-up for residents across our community sites.

You will be part of a team that maintains food safety, assists with meal prep where appropriate, and helps ensure a high standard of resident care and service. The role emphasizes flexibility and teamwork in a senior housing setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; or 4 years relevant kitchen experience.
• 6 months experience as Kitchen Assistant or Dishwasher.
• Proven cooking experience in a commercial kitchen serving 20+ people.
• Active NYC food handler's certification.

Responsibilities

• Clean food service areas, equipment, kitchen, storage and dining area.
• Dishwashing, pot washing and other cleaning duties as assigned.
• Assist with meal service distribution and setup; assist with food prep per safety rules.
• Receive and store food deliveries per NYC Health regulations.
• Label, date and rotate stock properly.
• Meet with supervisors regularly about procedures and best practices.
• Work as part of a team to provide high-level care and communication with residents.
• Share resident progress and needs with appropriate staff; participate in trainings.
• Implement emergency procedures and work independently when required.
