Job summary

Westside Federation of Senior & Supportive Housing (WSFSSH) is seeking Kitchen Assistants for its Multi-Site Support pool in New York, NY. The role supports meal service under supervision, performing prep, service, cleaning and safety-compliant duties across various sites.

Per diem opportunities offer flexible scheduling and site variety, with potential pathways into full-time positions within the organization.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a commercial kitchen.
• Ability to prepare nutritious and appealing meals for residents.
• Ability to follow kitchen procedures and protocols.
• Proficient written and oral communication skills.
• Excellent organizational ability, time management and interpersonal skills.
• Team focused and able to work well with others.
• Interest in working and supporting our senior residents.

Responsibilities

• Clean food service areas including equipment, kitchen, storage and dining area.
• Dishwashing, pot washing, and other cleaning duties as assigned.
• Assist with distribution and setup of meal service and food prep per safety procedures.
• Assist in accepting and properly storing food deliveries per NYC health regulations.
• Label, date and rotate stock as required.
• Meet with supervisors regularly to discuss procedures and best practices.
• Work as a team to maintain high level of care and communication with residents.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff and other departments as needed.
• Share resident progress and needs with appropriate staff.
• Attend training sessions and conferences to enhance skills.
• Implement emergency procedures as necessary.
• Work independently when required.
