Job summary

Van Buren County Government is seeking an entry to mid-level fleet maintenance worker to perform light repairs on county vehicles under the direction of the Master Mechanic.

The role requires basic diagnostic skills, proper tool handling, and adherence to safety rules. The position involves maintaining records, assisting with parts and fluids, and ensuring work areas are clean and organized.

Qualifications

• Minimum four (4) years unrestricted driving experience.
• Minimum one-year formal mechanic's training or experience in servicing light- and medium-duty vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Assist Master Mechanic in vehicle maintenance and repair duties.
• Read, interpret, and work from manuals, diagrams, and written instructions.
• Operate compressors, steam cleaners, pneumatic and electric tools.
• Maintain records and logs of servicing vehicles and equipment.
• Perform bulb, wiper blade and other simple mechanical part changes.
• Clean parts and engines and keep the shop and service areas tidy.
