Job summary

Midland County is seeking an experienced maintenance technician to service its fleet of vehicles and equipment. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, including engine rebuilds and repairs of hydraulic, electrical, cooling, and fuel systems, as well as body work.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least three years in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment repair. Strong diagnostic and welding skills, the ability to read wiring diagrams, and safe

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on county vehicles and equipment.
  • Rebuild engines and repair hydraulic, electrical, cooling, fuel systems, drive trains, and body work.
  • Diagnose engine and mechanical problems and determine needed repairs.
  • Repair drive trains, incl. engine overhauls and transmission rebuilds.
  • Repair and maintain air conditioning and cooling systems, radiators, pumps, belts.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems, wiring, alternators, and solenoids.
  • Repair braking, fuel, and hydraulic systems; replace components as needed.
  • Assist with parts pickup, vehicle transport, and tool maintenance.
  • Maintain records of vehicle maintenance history and work orders.
  • Perform welding, cutting, fabrication work, and GPS equipment installs as needed.

Job description

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on county's vehicles, includes rebuilding engines and repairing hydraulic, electrical, cooling, fuel systems, drive trains, and body work.

  • Perform corrective maintenance on county's vehicles, including performing engine rebuilds and repairs of hydraulic, electrical, cooling, and fuel systems, body work;
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including tune-ups, oil and filter changes, grease jobs, battery checks, tire and lubrication checks, and other preventive maintenance;
  • Diagnose engine and mechanical problems and the repairs needed on County vehicles and equipment;
  • Repair drive trains, including engine overhauls, transmission rebuilds, and clutch replacement;
  • Repair and maintain vehicles’ air conditioning units and cooling systems, including radiators, compressors, water pumps, thermostats, belts;
  • Troubleshoot and repair vehicle ignition and electrical systems, including wiring, solenoid relays, alternators;
  • Repair and maintain braking systems, including master cylinders, rotors, brake pads, drums;
  • Repair and maintain vehicle fuel systems, including fuel pumps, fuel filters, fuel lines, and fuel gauges;
  • Assist with part pickup and vehicle transport at needed;
  • Perform vehicle alignments, suspension repairs, and tire balancing;
  • Conduct heavy equipment hydraulic repairs and maintenance;
  • Clean and maintain tools, diagnostic equipment, and County garage in an orderly manner;
  • Order fuel, oil, parts, chemicals, paper supplies, and uniforms as needed;
  • Maintain computerized and manual records of vehicle and equipment maintenance and history;
  • Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication work as needed;
  • Complete and process work orders;
  • Install, trouble shoot, and replace GPS trackers
  • Troubleshoot and repair mosquito sprayer equipment;
  • May perform preventative and corrective maintenance on courthouse generator; and other related duties as may be assigned.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.

High school graduation, or its equivalent, plus at least three years of experience in automotive, diesel, or heavy equipment repair oranyequivalentcombinationofeducationandexperiencewhichprovidestherequiredknowledge,skills,andabilities.Knowledge of automotive equipment and mechanics; welding and cutting techniques and procedures; safe operation and repair of equipment (automotive, light, and heavy), including brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems. Skill or Ability to understand and follow instructions; tolerate adverse working conditions; diagnose problems and repair vehicles; repair hydraulic systems, gasoline and diesel engines, and heavy equipment; able to read wiring diagrams and electrical circuits; operate diagnostic equipment; operate welder and cutting torch; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and the general public.
