Job summary

Atlanta Public Schools seeks a skilled Paint & Body Technician to repair, refinish, and perform light-to-moderate mechanical work on its fleet, including school buses. The role focuses on reducing downtime and ensuring safe, compliant vehicles across APS locations.

The position requires 2 years of related experience, CDL preferred or obtainable, and familiarity with fleet management systems. On-site work across multiple APS locations is expected.

Qualifications

• Must have 2 years of automotive body repair or painting experience.
• Experience with heavy-duty vehicles or school buses preferred.
• CDL preferred or ability to obtain.
• K-12 education or public sector experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs structural and non-structural collision repairs on buses and fleet vehicles in alignment with OEM and industry standards.
• Assesses vehicle damage and develops appropriate repair strategies.
• Repairs or replaces panels, frames, doors, bumpers, mirrors, and structural components.
• Completes required welding, fabrication, and alignment work.
• Executes full paint and refinishing processes, including surface preparation, priming, sealing, painting, and finishing.
• Mixes and applies coatings to meet APS fleet standards with accurate color matching, blending, and detailing.
• Ensures compliance with environmental and safety regulations related to paint and materials.
• Diagnoses and repairs mechanical issues related to collision damage, including electrical systems, wiring, lighting, and safety components.
• Performs minor to moderate repairs, including brake replacement, suspension work, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Escalates complex issues to Master Technicians and supports fleet operations during high-demand periods.
• Required to have prompt, regular attendance in person and be available to work on-site during regular business hours.
