Job summary

Garfield County School District No.16 is seeking a skilled Mechanic to maintain, repair and inspect its fleet of school buses and district vehicles. You will work with diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, and safety-critical components to meet state and federal regulations.

The role requires a CDL with passenger endorsement, ASE certifications where possible, and a strong commitment to safety, with duties including diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and emergency service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training preferred.
• CDL with passenger endorsement and ASE certifications often required.
• Experience with diesel or automotive technology and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel and gasoline engines and electrical systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance, oil changes, brake work, and fluid checks.
• Repair engines, transmissions, differentials, and air brakes; overhauls as needed.
• Keep detailed service records for regulatory compliance.
• Order and manage parts inventory; respond to emergency road calls.
• Maintain vehicle cleanliness and perform minor bodywork as needed.
