Job summary

La Porte Community School Corporation is seeking a skilled Mechanic to ensure safe operation of district vehicles and equipment. You will service, maintain, and repair the fleet, documenting repairs per Federal and State regulations.

The role reports to the Director of Transportation and requires a Class B CDL with relevant endorsements, ASE/A/C certifications, and a keen eye for safety and record-keeping. Eligibility includes drug testing and compliance with district policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
• Must be 21 years of age.
• Able to pass physical and pre-employment drug testing.
• Willingness to improve and/or develop job-related skills.
• Shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace and must participate in random drug/alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose problems, repair and perform general maintenance of district vehicles and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspect vehicles for proper working order and safe operation.
• Ensure vehicles meet State inspection requirements.
• Maintain work records for transportation vehicles and other district equipment.
• Order stock and inventory parts and supplies.
• Assist drivers on mechanical operations of vehicles.
• Maintain shop tools, equipment, and area for safe operation.
