Job summary

Saint Paul Public Schools is seeking a skilled Vehicle Mechanic Trainee to inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain the district fleet and specialized equipment. You will service gasoline and diesel engines, electrical and hydraulic systems, and perform road tests to ensure safety and reliability.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid CDL with air-brake endorsement, and ability to follow manuals and safety procedures.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must demonstrate progressively responsible responsibility for diagnosis, repair, servicing, and preventive maintenance of gasoline- and/or diesel-powered vehicles.
• Must read and apply technical manuals, service specifications, and repair information.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, repair, service, and maintain District vehicles and equipment.
• Diagnose and repair gasoline- and diesel-powered engines and related systems.
• Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
• Use diagnostic equipment and manuals to identify problems and select repairs.
• Perform road tests to verify performance and safety.
