Job summary

Verizon in New York is seeking an experienced fleet mechanic to maintain and repair a broad range of vehicles and equipment, using diagnostic tools and keeping detailed records to ensure reliability and safety.

This onsite role requires a CDL within 6 months, NY State Safety Inspection license (or obtain soon after hire), MACS/EPA refrigerant handling certification, and a valid driver’s license with a clean record. Work hours are 6am–2:30pm, Monday to Friday, with possible overtime as needed.

Qualifications

• 5 or more years of experience as a mechanic or equivalent.
• CDL license or commercial learner's permit (CDL required within 6 months of hire).
• NY State Safety Inspection License (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
• Certificate for Air Brakes Inspection (or obtain within 6 months of hire).
• Certificate for handling automotive refrigerant (e.g., MACS with EPA number) (or obtain within 6 months).
• Valid state driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.
• Tests - results in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company.
• Must meet safety-related requirements including OSHA, state agencies, manufacturers and/or the company.
• Must be able to perform physical requirements up to 75 lbs.
• CDL holders must pass alcohol and drug test.

Responsibilities

• Performing maintenance and repair of all types of motor vehicles and special equipment in Verizon fleet.
• Diagnosing, maintaining and repairing all company equipment including aerial lifts, diggers, generators, tools, etc.
• Using computer test equipment to diagnose vehicle problems.
• Interfacing with vehicle users regarding repairs and questions.
• Performing OSHA, ANSI, emissions, and state inspections on company vehicles.
• Utilizing Fleet maintenance tracking computer systems for work assignments, record keeping, time reporting, and parts inventory.
• Obtaining and maintaining all required certificates or licenses.
• Working evenings, weekends, holidays and unscheduled shifts based on business needs.
• Work hours are 6am to 2:30pm, Monday through Friday (hours may vary); overtime as needed.
