Job summary

First Student in Shoreham, NY is seeking a Maintenance Technician III to keep our buses and vans safe, reliable, and ready for service in a structured fleet environment.

Responsibilities include routine and some advanced maintenance, diagnostics, and accurate record-keeping. You may mentor Technicians I/II and must meet DOT safety requirements, with CDL-P endorsement within 3 months and ASE certifications encouraged.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Vocational or technical certification in vehicle repair preferred.
• Class B CDL with passenger endorsement required or expected within 3 months.
• State inspection license (if required).
• ASE certification preferred; ASE testing within 1 year.
• Expected to obtain 3 ASE certifications within 12 months.

Responsibilities

• Ensure vehicles are maintained and safe for service.
• Perform basic and advanced maintenance and repairs as directed.
• Brake repairs and inspections; engine tune-ups; suspension/drivetrain/clutch work.
• Diagnose and repair vehicle issues accurately.
• Maintain complete maintenance records and part usage.
• Complete work orders and order parts from designated suppliers.
• Assist with PMs, safety inspections, and annual inspections.
• Inspect completed work before vehicle release and obtain approvals.
• Assist with road calls and emergency services as needed.
• Report unsafe equipment conditions and corrective actions.
