Job summary

First Student is seeking a Mechanic / Maintenance Technician II to keep a fleet of school buses reliable and safe. You will perform routine and advanced repairs, conduct inspections, and support emergency service calls under supervision, mentoring newer technicians as needed.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience with diesel, gas, electric, or CNG vehicles.
• Ability to use hand tools and diagnostic software.
• Willingness to obtain a CDL and pursue ASE testing with company support.
• Strong problem-solving skills and teamwork orientation.
• Valid driver’s license; CDL training available.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on buses, including brakes and drivetrains.
• Carry out preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and diagnostics.
• Maintain service records, complete work orders, and track parts usage.
• Support emergency roadside service and assist junior technicians.
• Keep shop clean and safely move vehicles around yards.
