Job summary

Republic Services is seeking a Fleet Maintenance Supervisor to lead a shop team responsible for preventive maintenance and repairs of diesel and alternate-fuel trucks, containers, and heavy equipment. The role emphasizes safety compliance, scheduling, and coaching technicians to minimize downtime.

The ideal candidate has a strong ASE certification background and hands-on expertise in engine, transmission, brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, HVAC, and welding.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required and ASE certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction to lead technicians and ensure repair/maintenance work is safe, efficient and timely.
• Monitor performance and redirect activities as needed.
• Report on performance and suggest process improvements for efficiency.
• Supervise maintenance shop staff, conduct training and evaluations, and manage hiring decisions with HR.
• Perform inspections to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards; follow up on issues.
• Identify training opportunities and address deficiencies with technicians.
• Conduct quality control inspections and track resolutions.
• Oversee diagnostics for complex repairs and may road-test vehicles.
• Manage shop inventory and budget; approve expenses within authority; escalate major costs.
• Maintain advanced knowledge of engines, emissions, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, electrical systems, HVAC, and welding for heavy equipment and trucks.
