Job summary

The City of Modesto is seeking an Equipment Service Technician to inspect, service, and perform minor repairs on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment used to support community services.

You will fuel, grease, and lubricate equipment, perform safety inspections, change tires, install batteries and belts, and keep detailed maintenance records. The role emphasizes safe work practices and customer-focused teamwork in a busy shop.

Qualifications

• Experience in automotive servicing or related mechanical work.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Valid Class B California CDL with endorsements within 60 days of appointment.
• Complete set of mechanic hand tools through 1-1/4” and a toolbox.

Responsibilities

• Fuel, grease, and lubricate vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Perform safety inspections and routine repairs.
• Change tires; install batteries, spark plugs, belts and simple parts.
• Keep records of fuel use and maintenance.
• Assist in general shop maintenance and cleanliness.
• Build positive relationships with coworkers and the public.
• Follow safety procedures and wear PPE as required.
