Job summary

City of Fresno is hiring an Equipment Service Worker I to join the fleet maintenance team. You will be hands-on with a variety of City vehicles, performing cleaning, fueling, and routine maintenance to keep equipment ready for service. Work may include night shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, with options for experience or formal automotive training. A valid California driver’s license is required, and opportunities exist in the General

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Option 1: 1 year of full-time experience doing minor vehicle maintenance.
• Option 2: 30 college units in Automotive/Heavy Equipment Technology plus 6 months experience.
• Option 3: Vocational certificate in Automotive/Heavy Equipment Technology with transcripts.

Responsibilities

• Clean vehicle exteriors and interiors to standards.
• Use steam cleaners and detergents to clean engines and parts.
• Check and refill fluids (water, gas, diesel, oil) and jump-start vehicles as needed.
• Perform basic maintenance (tires, bulbs, belts, filters, wipers).
• Assist in more complex repairs as directed by senior staff.
• Enter data for daily reports and maintain records.
