Job summary

Ingram Marine Group is seeking both entry level and experienced deckhands to support fleeting operations in Columbus, KY. You will join a crew on vessels and be assigned after Orientation, with schedules including 21/21, 14/7, and 7/7 options.

Reliable transportation to hitch locations is required. Responsibilities include tow building, vessel housekeeping, locking assistance, rigging, and safety compliance.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods (21, 14, or 7 day hitches).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to respond quickly in unexpected circumstances.

  • Must pass post-offer checks (background, drug screen, physical).
  • Lift and carry up to 110 pounds and work in confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Assist deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tightening ratchets, sweeping bars).
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, cleaning crew living quarters).
  • Assist with locking operations.
  • Carry rigging, pumps, hoses and lines as needed.
  • Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain or snow for extended periods.
  • Check barges for water and leaks, including confined spaces.
  • Maintain vessel appearance; perform washing, chipping and painting.
  • Assist the Engineer as requested and follow safety systems.
  • Participate in safety drills and audits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Description

Are you ready to navigate your way toward a new career? Ingram Barge Company is looking to bring both entry level and experienced deckhands onboard to support our fleeting operations in Columbus, KY.

Must have Drivers Licenses. Columbus vessels work a variety of schedules ranging from 21/21, 14/7 and 7/7. You will be assigned to a vessel after completion of Orientation. Candidates wishing for a position working a 28/28-day schedule should apply to the Linehaul Deckhand posting. Regardless of assignment and schedule, you will be reliable for your own transportation to and from your hitches.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Assist deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tighten ratchets, sweep and shovel barges)
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping and cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assist with locking
  • Carry rigging (ratchets, wires and straps) pumps, hoses and lines
  • Work outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions such as heat/cold & rain/snow
  • Check barges for water and leaks – which at times requires climbing into confined spaces
  • Upkeep of vessel appearance includes sooging (washing), chipping and painting
  • Assist the Engineer as requested
  • Practice safe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participate in safety drills and audits
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested

  • Pass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, physical)
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
  • Be able to work in confined spaces often entered through a manhole
  • Be able to climb a ladder and able to board and ride in a skiff
