Job summary

Ingram Barge Company is seeking entry level and experienced deckhands to join our crew for inland waterway operations. You may be assigned to any river segment or vessel type based on company needs. Reliable transportation to hitch locations is required.

Responsibilities include deck crew support, vessel housekeeping, locking, rigging, pumps and hoses, and safety drills. Candidates must be able to lift up to 110 pounds and work outdoors in all weather conditions; TWIC card is required.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read and write English to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (not a renewal receipt)

Responsibilities

  • Assist deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tightening ratchets, sweeping and shoveling barges)
  • Perform daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assist with locking
  • Carry rigging (ratchets, wires, straps)
  • Handle pumps, hoses and lines
  • Work outdoors in heat/cold and rain/snow
  • Check barges for water and leaks; may require entering confined spaces
  • Maintain vessel appearance (washing, chipping, painting)
  • Assist the Engineer as requested
  • Practice safe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participate in safety drills and audits
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

You may be assigned to any river segment or vessel type based upon Company needs at time of your hire. As an Ingram associate, you will be reliable for your own transportation to and from your hitches.

  • Assisting deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tighten ratchets, sweep and shovel barges)
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping and cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assisting with locking
  • Carrying rigging (ratchets, wires and straps)
  • Pumps, hoses and lines
  • Working outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions such as heat/cold & rain/snow
  • Checking barges for water and leaks – which at times requires climbing into confined spaces
  • Upkeep of vessel appearance includes sooging (washing), chipping and painting
  • Assisting the Engineer as requested
  • Practicingsafe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participating in safety drills and audits
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested
Qualifications

  • Ability to work away from home for extended periods (14, 21 or 28 day hitches)

  • Must be able to read and write the English language in order to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). We do not accept receipts from renewals, first time applicants only.
  • Pass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, physical)
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
  • Be able to work in confined spaces often entered through a manhole
  • Be able to climb a ladder and able to board and ride in a skiff
  • Driver's License Preferred
