Job summary

Ingram Barge Company, part of Ingram Marine Group, is seeking entry level and experienced deckhands to support inland waterways operations in the United States. You may be assigned to any river segment or vessel type based on company needs, and you must arrange your own transportation to hitch locations.

A TWIC card is required before orientation. You will assist with tow building, vessel housekeeping, lock procedures, and general rigging tasks.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to read and write English to comply with USCG requirements.
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card prior to Orientation.
  • Willing to work 14, 21 or 28 day hitches away from home.
  • Physically able to lift up to 110 pounds and work in confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather and conditions.
  • Driver's license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tightening ratchets, sweeping and shoveling barrels).
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping, cleaning crew living quarters).
  • Assist with locking procedures.
  • Carry rigging, pumps, hoses and lines as needed.
  • Work outdoors for extended periods in heat, cold or rain.
  • Check barges for water leaks; may require entering confined spaces.
  • Maintain vessel appearance (washing, chipping and painting).
  • Assist the Engineer as requested.
  • Practice safe crew, vessel and tow operation using company safety systems.
  • Participate in safety drills and audits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Are you ready to navigate your way toward a new career? Ingram Barge Company is looking to bring both entry level and experienced deckhands onboard.

You may be assigned to any river segment or vessel type based upon Company needs at time of your hire. As an Ingram associate, you will be reliable for your own transportation to and from your hitches.

You will be required to obtain a TWIC card BEFORE Orientation https://www.tsa.gov/twic

  • Assisting deck crew in tow building (laying wires, tighten ratchets, sweep and shovel barges)
  • Daily vessel housekeeping (sweeping, mopping and cleaning crew living quarters)
  • Assisting with locking
  • Carrying rigging (ratchets, wires and straps) pumps, hoses and lines
  • Working outdoors for extended periods of time in weather conditions such as heat/cold & rain/snow
  • Checking barges for water and leaks - which at times requires climbing into confined spaces
  • Upkeep of vessel appearance includes sooging (washing), chipping and painting
  • Assisting the Engineer as requested
  • Practicingsafe crew, vessel and tow operation using Ingram safety systems
  • Participating in safety drills and audits
  • Performing other related duties as assigned or requested
Qualifications

  • Must be able to read and write the English language in order to comply with USCG regulatory requirements
  • Must obtain a valid TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). We do not accept receipts from renewals, first time applicants only.
  • Pass a post-offer process if an offer is made (background check, drug screen, physical)
  • Be able to lift and carry up to 110 pounds for up to 1000 feet
  • Be able to work in confined spaces often entered through a manhole
  • Be able to climb a ladder and be able to board and ride in a skiff
  • Driver's License Preferred
