Job summary

Del Mar College Continuing Education seeks a Fitness Instructor to teach assigned courses in physical fitness, offering multiple times and locations to meet institutional needs. The pool supports part-time, non-exempt, hourly roles with a focus on delivering quality instruction and program consistency.

Candidates should bring five years related experience and strong knowledge of fitness activities, with ability to use instructional technology and adapt to diverse learners.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years related work experience.
• Two (2) years teaching or training experience.
• Knowledge in physical fitness activities and techniques.
• Ability to utilize instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources and other appropriate media in instruction.
• Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus/outline provided to insure course content and objectives are met.
• Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need.
• Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes.
• Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures.
• Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work.
• Maintain daily attendance rosters. Input final student grades into WebDMC. Submit final hard copies of daily attendance rosters and grade sheets to the Continuing Education Department.
• Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.

Introduce students to the basic fundamentals of physical fitness activities and techniques. Including instruction in conditioning activities involving cardiovascular strength, endurance, respiratory efficiency, muscular strength, and flexibility. Conditioning activities include but are not limited to areas such as tennis, racquet ball, yoga, aerobics, and dance.

Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.
