Job summary

University of Miami is seeking a Transitional Advisor to support onboarding and first-year student success in Coral Gables. You will act as the primary contact from deposit through Cane Navigator handoff, guiding students through major changes across schools and providing high-quality, student-centered advising.

The role emphasizes relationship-building, clear communication, and collaboration with campus units to ensure a smooth transition to the university.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with 1 year (preferred) advising, counseling, or customer service experience.
• Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speaking with students and families.
• Strong interpersonal skills and capacity to build campus-wide relationships.

Responsibilities

• Provide onboarding and student success services to incoming first-year students.
• Serve as primary contact for assigned students during onboarding and hand off to Cane Navigator.
• Guide students through changes of major across schools/colleges when needed.
• Use best practices in advising and maintain holistic student support.
• Explain policies, calendars, and registration processes to students and families.
• Collaborate with Cane Navigators, Admissions, Financial Aid, and housing units.
• Monitor student progression and assist with registration and satisfaction.
• Facilitate permissions, course equivalency reviews, and prerequisite checks.
• Utilize dashboards and Navigate to manage records and communications.
• Meet unit benchmarks and FERPA guidelines; participate in training and events.
