Job summary

Forward Air Corporation is seeking a Freight Handler (Forklift Operator) to safely load, unload, stage, and document freight in a busy dock environment. You will operate sit-down/stand-up forklifts and reach trucks, assist with dock coordination, and mentor newer Material Handlers as needed.

The role requires at least 3 years of dock or warehouse experience, valid forklift certification (or ability to obtain), and strong English communication skills.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
• Valid forklift certification or ability to obtain before operating.
• 3+ years of dock or warehouse experience.
• Ability to read labels and freight documentation.
• Basic math and use of scanners.

Responsibilities

• Load and unload freight using sit-down/stand-up forklifts and other MHE.
• Move, stage, sort, and position freight between dock doors and areas.
• Pick, pack, and prepare items for shipping and delivery.
• Assist drivers with loading/unloading following safety procedures.
• Label, scan, and track freight to ensure accuracy and documentation.
• Identify damaged freight and report safety or equipment issues.
• Maintain a clean, safe dock environment and follow PPE standards.
• Support dock productivity and overall operational goals.
• Work assigned schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
